A mixture of fear and wonder were beginning to churn inside of Chandrea. The things that these two women were saying about her. What if they were true? What if she really was a – a sorceress? An avat? And a queen to boot?
“Okay. Let’s back up here for a minute, if you guys don’t mind. I really need to clarify some things.” Agitated, she stood up to pace. Furrowing her brow in concentration, she started. “For the sake of argument, let’s just say that I am this queen that you sent to another world to save me from assassination. And, let’s say that I am a sorceress…or an avatar. Or whatever.” Chandrea was so frustrated she was ready to scream. “What exactly do you expect me to do now? I have absolutely no training as royalty! Hell, I’ve never even met royalty! I have no idea how to battle an evil empire or unite kingdoms, let alone lead an army! And even if I do have these tremendous powers you both keep talking about, I have no idea how to control them on my own or to use them purposefully to defeat anything! I’m trained in running a daycare for children, for God’s sake! Not to be the reincarnated version of a powerful queen!”
Adelaide jumped to her feet. “My Lady, granted, these are all things that will take time to learn and perfect, but it can be done. I have sworn to serve you, to assist you, in any way possible to bring about these means. I planned to take you to a place where you can be trained in the art of sorcery, and I, personally, can assist you in learning royal protocol. I know of men and women who can teach you what you need to know to control an army, and will gladly raise arms with you. It can be done. It must be done. It is your destiny,” Adelaide said simply.
“My destiny?” Chandrea choked out, staring at the older woman in disbelief. Striding up to Adelaide, Chandrea clenched her fists tightly and snarled out, “A few hours ago, my destiny was to get ready to go to my job interviews, and then go have pizza with my best friend. A few hours ago, my destiny was to find my dream job, get married, find a house with a white picket fence, have babies, and live happily every after! That was my destiny! Not saving your world!”
